May 23, 2016 - Columbus, GA

Hey y'all!

It sounds like your week was great and very busy with lots of transitions into jobs and ending of school! Its crazy to me that this time last year I graduated high school and starting to prepare for my mission. It seems like just yesterday we were packing the house to go and move to Utah. I know that we will be able to find a house that feels right because as I've learned more and more on my mission that if we have faith then God will bless us but when we start to doubt like Peter walking on water that's when we can see the storm and troubles around us, so PROTECT THE FAITH! So definitely keep me updated with the house and all of the job situations! My week was sure another busy one here in Columbus and it's crazy how fast time is going!

On Tuesday we drove up to LaGrange, GA for a district meeting from there we would go on exchanges. I was going with Elder Gregory back to Columbus and Elder Gregory is soooo cool and we had a great conversation on the way back from District Meeting! Elder Gregory was trained by Elder Hinton and so you could say we had alot to talk about in the Good ol' city of Waynesboro and Hephzibah. When we got back we had a very busy day seeing one of the members here in the hospital battling cancer and after we prayed and visited with him we saw his wife on the way out and I felt like we definitely help lift their spirits which is always a good thing. We tried seeing one of our potential investigators with a member but he wasn't home so instead we went to go see the lady who was homeless but is now staying with a member. She committed to come to church as we both testified of faith and the power of acting by faith. Also we had our first ward coordination meeting with our new ward mission leader who is very excited about the work going on here and we cant wait for whats to come!! After coordination meeting we planned to go help a member move a piano from the 1870's! The piano was made from solid oak and the piano keys were made from elephant tusks and it was a family heirloom passed down from the generations. The lady we were helping is moving to Colorado Springs for training at Ft.Carson. All the missionaries that had planned on coming to help were unable to because of things that came up in the day but thankfully, and through many calls to people in the course of 5 minutes, the new ward mission leader, and a member that came were able to help us. They both were in the Army and were pretty hefty guys if you know what I mean haha!  There was a lot of emotion in the move because it was an heirloom and we didnt have the best equipment to help move it just brute man power but through lots of straining of muscles we were able to put it on a rickety old trailer to move it to another members house for refurbishing. We then returned and 6 missionaries stayed with us over night because the next day we would be traveling to Macon for zone conference and it was easier and less time to travel from Columbus.

On Wednesday, we drove to Macon for zone conference and when we got there for car inspections we found out we would be getting black boxes in our cars called Tiwi... This box made quite the change of  mindset for a lot of missionaries in regards to driving mission owned cars. The black boxes alert you if you go more than 5 over the speed limit and you have 15 seconds to slow down and if you don't President Cottle gets a message on his phone says you were speeding. It also alerts you if you don't have your seat belt on or if you take turns to sharp so I'm sure for a lot of moms this will provide some comfort knowing that we will slow down. President Cottle asked me to conduct the meeting and I am getting better and better at talking in front of people and I felt like I did pretty well! Sure nerve racking but nothing I'm not used to haha. It was fun to see a lot of old friends and of course feel the spirit that President Cottle and the presidency bring to the meeting. We then came back and tried to not freak out from hearing tiwi alert us about going over the speed limit. Dont worry it only happened 3 times to me. We met with one of our investigators and had an awesome lesson and he told us that "The Book of Mormon makes sense" coming from someone who relies solely on the bible. You find that a lot here in the bible belt. The Sisters had a miracle of someone walking into the church wanting to know how he can get baptized!!! So they had a awesome lesson with him and you can just see the blessings from being obedient.

On Thursday, we had another service project moving sister Fletcher out of her apartment on the 2nd story when she had lots of heavy furniture INCLUDING a piano!! It was Elder Haines, the sisters, Sister Fletcher mom, and I trying to get the piano down the stairs and it sure was a struggle getting that thing down those stairs. It was me and Elder Haines on the bottom lifting it up and the Sister and the mom would guide is gently down the steps and boy I'll tell ya it was definitely journal worthy!! We helped her moved what seemed to be a thousand boxes and tables and taking down a bunk bed. Lots of sweat in the that endeavor! Later that day we had stake priesthood meeting and learned about holding the mantle of the priesthood and living up to our potential.

Friday, Elder Haines was sick most of the day which means I was in quarantine and had to stay in... As he slept I worked out, and worked out some more, and read my scriptures, and watched the Testaments haha. I'll tell ya that next going out was like I was born again. Its crazy when you go without something you realize how much you love the little things.

Saturday we gave Brother Arroyo a blessing, he just had a stroke and became paralyzed on his left side and we had a great visit with him as he explained the struggles in his life. We then later that day hopped on our bikes and got looks from alot of people and riding on that white line and keeping on that strait and narrow!!We then had a movie night later that night where we watched the Special Witnesses of Christ and heard the testimonies of apostles who have passed on which definitely strengthen my testimony in Christ!

Sunday was an Awesome worship service! 2 of our investigators came and the meeting had a tangible spirit present and I'm sure they could feel it too as the speakers testified of Christ and the Atonement. Miraculously a man came in wanting to know more about the church and really enjoyed our Sunday School class talking about faith and we are very excited for him!! We then visited lots of people and taught lots of lessons. We stopped by one of our investigators we haven't seen in a while and he was very grateful we still "remembered him"and he was afraid that we had forgotten but we couldn't forget him. He just needed to feel the lack of the Spirit in his life so he could appreciate us and the spirit we bring when we came back. He told us that the other day his neighbor across from him, which happened to be where we were standing, was shot in the head and told us all about all the shootings here. So he told us to stayed 'prayed up" and don't go out at night.

I LOVE YOU GUYS!!

May 16, 2016 - Columbus, GA

Hey Y'all!

It sounds like y'all are doing so great! Keep on keeping on with of your doings in Utah!

This past week was super SUPER busy....

On Tuesday, we had a fun and interesting day. We helped out at the food bank and helped them box more food which is always invigorating. We did 3 palettes of food which is more than they've ever had 2 people do before in just 2 hours so thats something to be proud of. After that Elder Haines and I went on an adventure out to a small, microscopic town called Mauk. We went out there to give a blessing for Sister Seeley who was going to have surgery later that week and comfort that only the spirit can provide. The only traffic there is a tumbleweed crossing the road and the occasional turtle or squirrel. We weren't able to find a member to take us out there but we went out there in our car. While we were driving there we spotted a tortoise flipped on its shell trying to flip over to it's stomach after it fell from a mound of dirt. So Elder Haines and I did a good thing and saved it and put it on the other side of the road:) We found out later that it was an endangered species of tortoise too which made it even better. We then went on splits with a few members of the youth to cover a few appointments where Ken and I went and visited a family and as we watched the Hope of Gods light with them the spirit guided the lesson and we were able to help answer some of their own personal questions.

On Wednesday, we did some MORE service at the Food Bank and tried to beat our record but we couldn't get it because we didnt have as much time. We met with Stephen later in the afternoon and read the culminating moment in the Book of Mormon where Christ comes to the Americas after the Resurrection with him and he could definitely see why the Book of Mormon is important to the world after the lesson. It was cool he told us that "The Book of Mormon really helps me solidify my testimony in Jesus Christ!" We were like Yessir!!!

On Thursday, we had our zone training meeting that Elder Haines and I planned out and prepared for all week. It went super well and the spirit was very strong! My training was all about why we came on missions and why its important that we magnify our calling as missionaries because it can mold and shape our lives. So the motive of my training was to pump them up, which I have practice with for sure!! For most of my training I used Jefferey R. Holland's talk "The Miracle of a Mission" and took passages from it. A passage that really stood out to everyone was a passage about President Gordon B. Hinkleys mission and how during the beginning of his mission he wanted to come home and our zone was shocked that the prophet struggled on his mission. If a prophet can struggle than we can all struggle. I talked about being a spiritually hungry missionary and we need to feed our souls with obedient things instead of eating "food" that can take our mind away from our mission. My training went very well and people told me that my training was AWESOME and you always got to feel good after that especially when the training was 30 minutes and each minute was of value to the missionaries there. After ZTM I went on exchanges in Auburn where I would be on exchanges with a spanish missionary and it would just so happen that I would speak Spanish for the day. So I had to get all my high school Spanish cobwebs off and go to work! We met Alabama's strongest body builder in the world and I "lifted" with him or at least tried to hang with the amount of weight he had. He was quite a big guy haha! After that we went over to a members house where one of their cats was giving birth to four kittens and I'll tell you what cats give quite a loud MEOWW during kitten birth and that sure was interesting to see.

On Friday, we planned all day and met with a few less active members way up north and met a couple that found each other at Utah Sate and haha after we had that chat with them it got me pumped for the future!

On Saturday, we got to the ranch where we do service on Saturdays and the first thing we were told was that we would be working with the Horses that day. So we head over to the barn and (Kristy and Dad get ready to be proud) they give Elder Haines and I a brush and told us to go into these stalls and brush the horses and instantly my mind jumped back to when I saw Kristy and Dad brush horses and after getting comfortable around the horse I brushed it and made all its hair look shiny:) Then we brushed some donkeys, and mules and even played with a newborn goat that was adorable:) Then this where it gets good, so then he gave us a pick and showed us how to clean out a horses hoof. So you know me I dont back down fro ma challenge and he showed me the first time out to position the hood and scrape the muck from the hoof. Well, as I was doing my second horse and getting the hang of it, I picked up on of the horse's hooves on his back end and guess what, he started to poop right as I was leaning down to clean his hooves.... HAHAHAHA luckily it didnt get on me or anything but it sure did smell!! It was alot of fun working on the farm though and we also saw a new baby foal being born which was pretty fun! Later that day we were knockin a few doors and we were having a good amount of success and we knocked on this one guys door and it turns out he was a police officer. At that same time this lady comes up and asks us about if we had a permit to knock doors in the neighborhood. So we show them our licenses but she said no you have to go to the police station and get a permit. Then the cop didnt really support her but said that we should probably go. So needless to say we got kicked out of the neighborhood but it was for a good cause.

Sunday was an AWESOME day, the spirit was very strong in church, lots of people came and things are going well in Columbus. We have made some great progress with one lady who was homeless she is staying at a recent converts home and they are getting along well which is sweet!! I know that the gospel has been restored and that Christ can help us overcome all the pains and weaknesses we may feel. That as we search him out that he will bless us with added knowledge and guidance in our daily lives.

I LOVE Y'ALL

May 9, 2016 - Columbus, GA

Hey y'all!!

It was so much fun being able to Skype with you yesterday! I wish time would go in slow motion during those calls because time always seems to fly by and I'm already looking forward for the next call so I'll be able to Skype. But in the meantime I'll work hard as a missionary! This past week was sure a busy week with so many activities, service, and finding new people to teach every single day. We have had major success this past week finding people as well as working with less actives with a lack of testimony.

On Tuesday, it was quite the day of service as wek went to the Valley Food Bank in the morning boxing food and putting the boxes of food onto palettes for people who are less fortunate. Since I'm a competitive person and winning motivates me, I asked the lady who was in charge "Whats the record for the number of palettes done in 2 hours??" She responded" I dont know it depends on how many people do it, BUT maybe we can look into a record of palette competition." So inside I was like"LET'S GO BABY!!!"  After we finished service we were prompted to go visit Sister Meadows who just happened to be doing yard work in the heat of the day and looked like she could use a hand. We helped her trim her bushes, helped her get brush from in between her bushes, and it made me feel good that I listened the promptings of the spirit and fulfilled a need that day! During service, since it was transfer day we were figuring out all the new companionship's in the zone and we have some awesome missionaries here in the Columbus zone and both Elder Haines and I are very excited for all the missionary work that will come to pass in this next transfer!

On Wednesday, We helped out at the Food Bank again and we had less help that day than on Tuesday, but we worked very hard and got the same number of palettes done with just Elder Haines and I which I though was a great accomplishment. It just feels really good to do service and it's impossible not to smile after you do service:) Wednesday night was one to remember. We ran into someone last week that was searching for God in her life and it just so happened that she asked what we did as missionaries. I replied and told her about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, essentially told her about the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and answered some questions that she had in her life. I know she was someone I was supposed to meet her on my mission and on Wednesday we were able to sit down with a a member of the bishopric and get a "self reliance" plan to help her get on her feet. The spirit was so strong, we started off the meeting with this video, many of you have probably seen it before ,but the message of the video cannot be talked about to much  https://www.mormonchannel.org/watch/series/mormon-messages/good-things-to-come-1. It really brought the spirit and as we talked about Jesus Christ and hope and gaining strength in our trials through Christ we were able to help her make a plan to get back on her feet. It was just a strengthening visit as we let God's love embrace us as we talked about aspects of the restored gospel and it's powerful seeing someone you just met and gain their trust and they feel that you care for them as God does.

On Thursday, we were able to go to the Food Bank AGAIN and pack boxes! Haha and you can definitely say we are good at packing boxes now! Another great thing happened that day as we were able to help someone commit for baptism in July which we are very excited about and I know that he made the right decision. Now it's just helping him feel God's love and use that love to help him through a few addictions and issues.

Friday, was quite the stressful day. The lady we met with to help her get back on her feet, she lost her car and turned to us to help her find a place to stay... One of the hardest lessons I've learned here on my mission is seeing so many needs for people but because we are just missionaries and our main purpose is to TEACH people we are restricted to how MUCH we can help. It feels like we have our hands tied around our backs sometimes as people explain their problems with finances or disabilities they have and I want nothing more than to just help them solve those problems but we can only teach them about how God can help and its up to them to decide to trust God and show their faith. I have faith that God will deliver them from their trials, BUT the trick is to help them feel that way. So throughout the day we were trying to discern how far we could go with this because its really not our place to ask church members to provide shelter for people we are teaching. There's a lady who was baptized a few months ago who went through a similar home less situation and this lady offered to help and provide sheleter for the lady we were teaching for no rent money!! WE visited with her and just in awe of that and how Christlike that decision was and we were so grateful for her.

On Saturday, we had a primary activity for the kids and the activity was called "A Book of Mormon Adventure" where the kids would go through stories in the Book of Mormon and learn to follow the prophet. So Elder Haines were asked to be Samuel and Nephi and in a first person view tell the story in 2 Nephi chapter 5:1-12. It was really fun leading the kids (family) through the wilderness and teaching them that story.

On Sunday, It was MOTHER'S DAY!!! I'll say it again, HAPPY MOTHER'S DAYYY MOM I LOVE YOU!!! The highlight of the day was definitely Skyping home to the best family eva!! And I look forward to it every single time. We also met this family on Sunday who has 4 kids and they all are very interested in looking into the church for their answers in the gospel. They are very sincere and I'll keep you updated with them. One of the kids asked us..."How do we know if a church has authority?" First off, he's twelve and is asking good questions of the soul which you dont see in alot of kids. We answered and talked about how the priesthood was restored and Joesph Smith's story. It made alot of sense to him and as we read in the Book of Mormon about the 2000 stripling warriors and because of the way the warriors were taught by their mothers the righteous way to live (Alma 56:47) they were brought up with God in their heart which allowed all 2000 not to be killed. So.. to all the mothers out there...especially to my Mom!! Thanks for all you do and if it wasnt for you I wouldnt be where I am today. And since I'm on the subject of families, if it wasnt for my dad I wouldnt have been taught how I should and I also wouldnt be here right now with you dad:) And you gotta have your siblings to good around with too so thanks for the support y'all:)

I LOVE YOU !

May 2, 2016 - Columbus, GA

Hey Y'all!

Wow this week was one for the books with so many spiritual experiences, wrapping up the transfer, and figuring out how to help our investigators grow in the gospel. I'm so glad that y'all are doing so well! Keep it up! I'm so very happy that everyone is doing so well at their own respected talents! Haha tell the ward they are AWESOME for me.  It really seems like there are some really great people there. There was so much that happened this week along with some really funny moments!! Also I'm staying in Columbus for another transfer with Elder Haines!! It will be so great.

On Monday, We went to Andersonville. This place was one of the most eerie places I've ever been to. Andersonville was the largest POW camp for Union soldiers in the confederacy and over 40,000 soldiers died there. They lived in very harsh condition receiving very little to live off of. Most of the soldiers there died from starvation and trying to escape from the camp. There is a stream that runs through that is what the soldiers drank from during their time there. The problem was because people didnt understand that when you use the stream as a bathroom the water is not drinkable. So the people at the top of the stream were able to drink the water, but when it reached the people at the bottom the water was very yucky. But that's how dire the situation was is that they were so thirsty they would drink that kind of water. They had reconstructions of the walls there that were exactly the same as the ones that were there in 1865. Also there was this place called Providence spring... There is thing called the deadline where if you step to close to the wall you were immediately shot and one night lightning struck the ground and water sprang up from it right outside the deadline, so soldiers would risk their lives by trying to pull can tines in the spring to get water. Not only that but people would dig at the root of the trees to get some water from the roots and all throughout the camp you could see the actual place where they were digging with spoons to get  water. It was sooo cool. There was also these bunkers and trenches that were from the civil war to protect the Unions from rescuing their soldiers. We then went to the cemetery where over 40,000 people were buried there and its also an active cemetery for veterans in the armed forces. It was an Awesome day and I have really come to love the military and the U.S even though there are some not so great things about it, we are able to live as we please, worship as we please, and we are able to thrive in a country for opportunity.

On Tuesday, Elder Haines and I went to Lagrange where we had district meeting there and said our goodbyes to a sister missionary going home. After district meeting we came back and there was a pretty funny moment. So Elder Haines and I were making some spaghetti and keep in mind I was very tired and exhausted from all the running around and missionary work we've done in the past weeks. Anyway so we poor the spaghetti on the plates and Elder Haines pulls a seasoning from the cupboard and I thought it was Parmesan cheese, but it turns out it was garlic salt... And because I thought this the dispenser wasn't getting any of the Parmesan cheese out so I opened up the large dispenser and from what was a little bit of garlic salt became a pile of garlic salt, not thinking anything of it, I stirred it around and Elder Haines is staring at me with a shocked face. And I put it up to my mouth and I made contact with my tongue and salt filled my mouth and I was like this isn't Parmesan cheese!!! Needless to say we had to throw out the spaghetti and I had an apple for lunch hahah. It all happened so fast and it was just one of those Mitch moments. Anyway for the rest of the day Elder Haines and I met some people and knocked some doors!!

Wednesday we had district meeting where I was put in what we call the chair. My district gave me so many compliments and  I'll try to send the voice recording of it but it might be too large odf a file. but they said how good of an example I was and how impressive it was to be a zone leader at my age in the mission field. They told me that I'm determined, hard working and overall a great man who wants to do the best at whatever he puts his mind to. So I mean that's pretty AWESOME!! I love this district and with transfer coming up a lot of them are leaving so they will be deeply missed. After that we dealer a lot with the natural man haha. The people we met with on Wednesday were overcome with problems coming from not living the gospel and I'm so glad that I was brought up the way I was in the church and with a loving family that taught me the right things. But we met with this guy who had killed someone, went to prison did some things there he shouldn't have, and got out of prison broke commandments and because hes at a very low point in his life he wants to change and turn toward God which we are trying to help him do. There was this other investigator that is going to prison for not having insurance for his car and we will have to stop teaching him until he gets out. Even though he said he wanted to get baptized but I know eventually he will.

Thursday, we exchanged back and we exchanged at a library in Cusseta and we did what we call RMT where we check our referrals and at the end of the time this guy jumps up and sticks his hand out to shake my hand and with this devilish smile on his face he says "I hate you" It was very creepy and somewhat evil. He pulled me over the counter a little bit and I ripped my hand from him and we got out of there!!! It was really unexpected and I don't know what else could've happened but I'm glad it turned out well. We had a class later that night where one of our investigators came and as we were singing I Believe in Christ he started to tear up and cry. Its funny on your mission you sometimes want people to cry cause its a sign they are feeling something, but haha its all good.

Friday we planned and met with some members later that day, and there was going to be a new AP in the mission so we were telling everyone in our zone how Elder Haines was going to be the new AP just to add to the drama.

Saturday, we worked out at the farm and we moved telephone poles, junk metal, and dug a pig pen up and got dirty. Held snakes and turtles. It was pretty fun. We also ran into this lady who is a really promising person and is in need of some Jesus in her life. We were eating dinner at a restaurant and when we were getting our food she asked us what we do everyday, and I told her about  teaching people about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and taught her the restoration. It was just a testimony to me that everyday God puts people in our path that need the happiness that we have and that through Jesus Christ we can receive eternal joy. I've been trying to be bold not over bearance but bold in my conviction as missionaries all over the world proclaim the gospel. We then had transfer calls later that night and Im staying here in Columbus but lot of our district will be moving and our zone which will be an adjustment.

Sunday, Elder Haines and I left for Macon after Sacrament meeting. We met for the missionary leadership council and Elder Parker the area seventy was in attendance. The message of the meeting was directed at igniting your own fire and not waiting for someone else to light it for you. He also talked about the power behind the Book of Mormon. Elder Parker is a retired MLB umpire, a convert, and has a strong testimony. His topic was centered on Elder Hollands talk "Mission are Forever" It is a very good talk and there was a quote that said" THe mission field is the MTC for the rest of your LDS life..." That was mind blowing to me. My bigggest fear is having regrets when I come off the plane and as I continue to work hard I know that God will bless us and all the missionaries around the world.

I LOVE Y'ALL

April 25, 2016 - Columbus, GA

Hey Y'all!

This past week was busy as always and it seems as if the more time I spend in the mission field the faster the time goes. It was very hectic but on the lack of time I'll give you a shorter version of my week.

On Tuesday we went on exchanges in Lanett, Alabama and I was with Elder Wells for the day! The area in Lanettt has been slower than it has in the past and I was determined to put some work in for that area! We started out by walking to this street called 2nd Ave and lets just say its not the "cleanest" nor best neighborhood in the world. We literally talked to everyone we could and so many people were outside enjoying the weather and whatnot. We taught 10 other lessons found some investigators that have been lost because of the lack of recording in the Area Book for that area and you could say it was a very spirit guided day. I mean everyday should be a spirit guided day, but this day was evident by the results we had.

On Wednesday, we drove to Columbus and had District meeting there where we talked about the principle of obedience and it was a very cool training and very powerful! After District meeting we saw a few less actives and met with some of our investigators. We had dinner with the Alstons who are AMAZING and they are moving to Hawaii for an Army base up there so we are sad to see them go. Brother Alston had a hilarious comment when we asked" How long have y'all been married?" "She started out by saying" About 2 years" and Brother Alston to his wife..."Bruh its been like 3 years" Hahaha it was just one of those moments you had to be there for. We also had an ice cream night with Ft Bennings branch President, and boy it was good!

On Thursday, we had a pretty fun day! We went out to a farm where we unpackaged bread again and unpackaged more than we ever had before a whopping 10 tons!! It was incredible! We laso were able to clean out a pigs head and get it prepared for the smoker. The pictures dont do it justice of how bloody it was haha! But we helped them out with that and had a great time! Later that night we had an awesome experience for me cause any day where you play basketball out here is a good day and here in Columbus we have basketball nights like we had back in Colorado and it made me so happy to be able to play a full 5-on-5 game again! There was a good amount of nonmembers there and it made for a good night of fellowship.

On Friday, we had a day of planning and we also explored on our bikes this place called Cooper Creek park. It would definitely be a place where I'd take a date hahah! But there was tons of frogs and turtles and swans and the sunset was pretty it was pretty great! We also had a scary experience when we were riding our bikes home, it was pretty dark and we were almost home when we were trying to cross the street to go into the gas station to make it shorter and safer, Elder Haines signaled and went, but there was a car that sped up and he put himself in a really awkward and difficult place for me. But I said to myself its better to be patient and stay where I'm at opposed to jumping out like I did when I broke my arm, so I waited he honked and I went. It worked out but I had flashbacks of when I broke my arm. Also people here don't give bike riders much space so when you ride you've got to be careful and stay on that white line.

On Saturday, Kristina and Dad you would've loved this place but we went to a horse ranch where we did service for a member in Pine Mountain. We were moving logs to a pile in a pasture of horses. It was very pretty and it was pretty crazy of how horses love you! So Kristy and Dad I kind of got the cowboy spirit in me from that. I never would think I would say this but Horses are pretty...cool and cute. hahah Later that day we had dinner with a body builder and you could guess I picked his brains! We also watched the Testaments with some investigators and the spirit at the end of the  movie really was so strong!!

On Sunday we had a full day of scheduled people to go see and we taught many lessons, had church, and continued to preach the gospel!!

Michelle HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Y'all are awesome and I LOVE YOU!!
